A couple new photos

Wanted to post the photo of Asa wearing the monkey outfit Grammy picked out for him. Mommy even remembered to put socks on before we went shopping. (I always forget and end up covering his poor toes up with a burper.)

On Saturday Asa and I went to Pop's house for a brunch at the Ashton. Ace was a very good boy and just slept and slept. He finally woke up when we went back up to Pop's apartment:

Asa's new friend

Now that Asa is getting big enough, he can play with his best friend Egan. Egan's mom and dad have been our great friends for years and we're so happy for he and Ace to get to hang out. Here they are at thier first "play date," though Ace decided to be a bit of a cranky pants:

Egan isn't too sure about Asa just yet:

Asa finally decided that playing is pretty fun.

Many faces of Ace

I thought this blog might give some folks the illusion that Asa is always a perfect angel. While he is very close to perfect, here is a pic of what went on a lot of Thursday:

But after a while, he will usually tire himself out...

This week I got Asa's first smiles out of him. I could never catch one in time, but this was at the very end of him smiling at his silly mommy:

Asa is three weeks old!

Asa was three weeks old on July 12. He weighed in a 9 lbs 5 ounces already! The kid is definitely getting plenty to eat. We'll weigh in again officially at his one month check up next week, so I'll report if he's hit 10 lbs by then. I need to start lifting some weights. Matt started back to work this week, so Asa and I really had to step up and get things going! Luckily, Matt's work is so generous that he will get to work three days a week for a few weeks, so we get him home on Mondays and Fridays. Here is Matt spending some quality time with Ace after getting home from work:

Some new pics

Here is Ace making his "O" face, Matt's favorite.

Here are a couple of the grandparents from the hospital I never posted. The first one is Grammy and Dee (Kirk's parents) with Asa. The next is Pop (Matt's Dad).

Playing at Home

Here is Asa playing with our dog Hatcher on the beautiful quilt Grammy made us.

Playing with babies makes a dog very, very tired.

Asa, however, wasn't tired at all, so we moved on to his new swing, which he loves.

Asa's first 4th of July

Asa was 12 days old on July 4. We took him to his first parade which is just a few blocks from our house.

Asa was decked out in his 4th of July outfit:

Here is Matt with Ace during the parade. It was very noisy; horns honking, sirens going off everyone yelling, and you can see below how this affected little Ace.

He was out cold for the entire parade!

It was pretty exciting and exhausting; here are Asa and daddy just a few hours later:

July 3

Asa is now 11 days old, and we just can't believe how fast it is going! He is still doing very well, eating great and going back to sleep pretty quickly at each feeding. We're still getting good 3-4 hour stretches of sleep and we are very grateful for that. Grammy is going home on Wednesday though, so we are really trying to wean ourselves from all of her wonderful help. Taking care of Ace and getting everything done around the house is going to be tough! Anyway, last night Grammy played with Ace and let mom and dad have a night to themselves...our first date without baby! Actually, our first big date in a while because that last few weeks of pg I didn't feel like dressing up and going anywhere nice. Matt took me to Steel, one of my favorites here in Dallas, and I loaded up on some great sushi. Here we are leaving on our big date:

Asa's first and second week

This has been a big week! We took Ace to Bed, Bath and Beyond on Thursday, when he was a week old. He was just perfect! We didn't feel like we learned too much on this visit, i.e., what do we do when he tee tees all over in the middle of the store. But that's okay, I'm sure we'll encounter all of that very soon!

Here is a new picture of Ace in his bouncer. Daddy calls it his "chair" and he sits in there some every day.

Here is Asa getting his first bottle. It was a practice run in case mommy needs to go somewhere and leave dad at home. He sucked down 3 oz in about 5 minutes.

Here is Ace getting his first bath. Daddy did a great job, even though Ace didn't think it was very fun. We had to do it though, after a couple days, the kid starts smelling like corn chips. Hahaha.

Here is Asa on July 1 going on his first walk. He is nine days old. We went about a block and got to meet our neighbor Lance and his dog Gabe.

This is one of Asa's most favorite places to be...in Grammy's arms. Grammy has been our guardian angel the last nine days and we are going to be very sad when she has to go back home.
